Wawasee Sports Wrap – Sept. 30
One night after Wawasee had celebrated its second win of the season, Elkhart Memorial came calling with a 4-0 win at Wawasee Tuesday night in girls soccer.
Wawasee, which defeated Whitko Monday night for its second win of the season, dropped its sixth Northern Lakes Conference match of the year after Memorial scored two goals in the first half and two more in the final eight minutes of the second half. Goal scorers for the Lady Chargers were not reported.
“(We) played much better in this loss than in our win versus Whitko yesterday,” stated Wawasee head coach Doug Heinisch. “Much better offensive possessions. Darrian Rosenberry and Sarah Lancaster deserve recognition for their play.”
Wawasee (2-12, 0-6) will host NorthWood Thursday in the final NLC match and regular season contest before sectional play begins next Tuesday in the Warsaw Sectional. Wawasee will face Plymouth in the opening round of the tournament.
The JV game went into the darkness, ending with a 2-0 score in favor of Memorial. The Lady Chargers scored in the eighth and 38th minutes of the one half of play.
Northridge The Conquerer
Northridge protected its home turf Tuesday with a 4-0 varsity boys soccer win over Wawasee.
Northridge goal scorers were not reported by Wawasee head coach Jordan Sharp, but he did note Wawasee keeper Korey Knafel made five saves in the loss.
The JV teams from Wawasee and Northridge finished in a 1-1 tie.
The Warriors (4-6-5, 1-4-1) will visit Plymouth in its final game before the Plymouth Sectional opens play Oct. 6. The Warriors and NorthWood Panthers will resume pleasantries in the second round of the tournament Oct. 8.
