Whitko Sports Wrap – Sept. 29
Columbia City handed host Whitko a 3-0 setback Monday evening in prep volleyball action.
The Eagles took the non-conference match by a 25-17, 25-19, 25-22 final in South Whitley.
Maddie Gawthrop led Whitko with nine kills to go with 17 digs and a pair of blocks.
Elaine Warner had 19 assists and Tressa Keim 17 digs for the Wildcats. Kaitlyn Reed had two blocks and Delaney Ray three aces.
Whitko won the junior varsity match 21-25. 25-17, 15-11.
Tennis Team Wins
The Whitko boys tennis team picked up a 4-1 win at Churubusco.
Cole Bechtold rallied for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles to lead the Wildcats.
Bailey Platt also collected a three-set win at No. 2 singles with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Austin Nettrouer won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3 singles. The No. 2 doubles team of Nick Rose and Jared Arnold won 6-4, 6-1.
The Whitko No. 1 doubles team of Alex Bechtold and Alex Robbins lost in three sets.
Whitko will play Wawasee Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in the Warsaw Sectional.
