Singles Sweep Paces Warsaw Win
NAPPANEE – A dominating performance by its singles lineup carried the Warsaw boys tennis team to a win at NorthWood Thursday.
The Tigers dropped just a total of eight games on the three singles courts in pounding the Panthers 4-1 in Northern Lakes Conference action.
The duo of Nic Jansen and Caleb Ray each rolled to convincing wins to pace coach Rick Orban’s team to the league win.
Senior Jansen posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while Ray was also winning 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 3 singles court for the Tigers.
Senior Sam Rice completed the singles sweep as he notched a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 for the winners.
The Tigers also got a win at No. 2 doubles as the team of Justin Stout and David Homme won 6-3, 5-7, 6-0.
The No. 1 doubles duo of Christopher Herendeen and Cole Baker lost 6-4, 6-3.
The Warsaw varsity squad improves to 6-6 overall and goes to 4-2 in NLC play.
The junior varsity match ended tied at 8-8. Winning for Warsaw in singles play were Andrew Gauger, Ryan Wettschurack and Nick Marsh. Winners in doubles action were the teams of Hudson Snyder and Colton Lind, Graham Ousley and Evan Ousley, Brandon Chan and Quentin Wright, Nick Marsh and Diego Miguel and Bryce Pequignot and Jacob Grimm.
Warsaw will close out NLC play at Concord Monday. The Tigers will then host the first two days of the NLC Tournament next Wednesday and Thursday with the finals set for Saturday, Sept. 27 at Northridge.
