Indians Top Tiger Tennis Team
SOUTH BEND – The Warsaw boys tennis team put up a strong effort in dropping a 4-1 final to host South Bend St. Joseph Wednesday evening.
The Indians claimed a pair of three-set matches in singles action to top the Tigers in the rescheduled non-conference match.
The lone point of the night for Warsaw, which was coming off a 5-0 home win over conference foe Wawasee on Tuesday, came at No. 2 doubles. The Tiger team of David Homme and Justin Stout topped Liam O’Connor and Will DeTrempe 6-3, 6-2.
Leo Romanetz outlasted Sam Rice 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles action.
Michael Wroblewski of the Indians rallied at No. 2 singles past Nic Jansen by a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 final.
St. Joe completed the singles sweep as Ram Gernandez stopped Caleb Ray 6-2, 6-2.
The Indians took the No. 1 doubles match as the pair of Joe Staud and Connor Colhoon defeated Christopher Herendeen and Cole Baker 7-5, 6-2.
Warsaw drops to 5-6 on the season, including a 3-2 mark in NLC play.
Warsaw won the junior varsity action by a 9-6 final. Winning twice each in singles play for the Tigers were Andrew Gauger, Ryan Wettschurack and Colton Lind. Winning in doubles action were the teams of Hudson Snyder and Kyler Bartol, Bryce Pequignot and Jacob Grimm and Keeton Bartol and Hayden Steger.
Warsaw will play at league foe NorthWood on Thursday in Nappanee.
