Tigers Take Title At Jeff
LAFAYETTE – The Warsaw volleyball team tuned up for a very challenging upcoming week with a championship performance Saturday.
The 1-2 punch of Katie Voelz and Peyton Adamiec helped the Tigers deck four opponents to win the Lafayette Jefferson Classic.
Warsaw defeated Milan, Lafayette Jefferson and Morristown each in two games and got past McCutcheon in three to take home the title.
The Tigers improved to 5-0 on the young season under Chandra Hepler. Hepler, the Warsaw JV coach and varsity assistant, is currently coaching the squad with head coach Mike Howard out after having back surgery this past week.
Voelz led the offensive attack on the day for the champions by racking up 33 kills in the four wins.
Adamiec had a huge all-around day for the Tigers with 31 digs to go with a team-high seven service aces and she also added 15 assists.
Haley Peterson powered with 14 kills and Kenzie Welk 13. Cassie Hoag piled up 120 assists and Voelz added eight. Jordyn Lindeman had six aces and Voelz five. Hoag also had 18 digs and Blake McGarvey 16.
Lindeman led the champions in blocks with eight. Caroline Mayer, Courtney Steffensmeier and Peterson each had a pair of blocks.
Warsaw plays at Class 3-A power Mishawaka Marian Monday. The Tigers then open Northern Lakes Conference play Thursday evening at defending league and sectional champion Elkhart Memorial. Warsaw caps a tough week by playing in the loaded field at the Mishawaka Invitational on Saturday.
