Warsaw Soccer Ladies Victorious
SOUTH BEND – Nothing was going to stop the Warsaw girls soccer team from a season-opening win.
The Tigers, who had their match postponed Monday night and then moved to a different location Tuesday evening, started the year on the right foot.
Coach Peter Lucht’s talented team notched a 1-0 win Tuesday night over host Mishawaka Marian in a contest played at the Indiana Invaders facility.
The game was moved due to field condition issues at Marian.
Freshman Brenna Shipley booted home the difference maker in the 53rd minute to give Warsaw the win. Sophomore Alyssa Atkins collected the assist.
Goalie Gabby Herman notched the shutout in her first varsity start. Herman had seven saves in net for the winners.
The Warsaw junior varsity team posted a 5-0 win over Marian. Katiana Rodriguez had two goals and Mariah Rivera, Tsige Berelsman and Jubilee Stichter each had one. Jessic Keyes had two assists and Lexi Myers, McKenzy Secrist and Kennedy Patton each had one.
Warsaw (1-0) will play in an invitational Saturday hosted by Fort Wayne Luers.
