Mother-Daughter Arrested For Drug Dealing
A mother and daughter each face up to 30 years in prison for stealing Hydrocodone pills from a local pharmacy.
CVS Pharmacy Assistant Laura Hughes, 21, of Warsaw, was arrested after an Aug. 3 investigation requested by CVS Pharmacy, 100 N. Detroit St., Warsaw.
The pharmacy’s loss prevention department reported the theft of drugs by Hughes noting she had stolen between 8,000 and 9,000 Hydrocodone 10 mg pills over the last 18 months. Hughes admitted to Warsaw Police investigators to consuming about half of the pills and selling the other half for $5 each. When Hughes was taken into custody, she had 189 pills on her and had already consumed six pills during her shift.
According to police, Hughes said she needed the pills to medicate herself and for extra income to pay bills. The investigation further uncovered that Hughes was providing pills to her mother, Jeannine Hart, 44, also of Warsaw, who also sold the pills and provided the cash back to her daughter.
Hughes was taken into custody and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on a Level 2 felony charge of dealing in a Schedule I, II, III controlled substance and with Level 6 felony theft.
Hart was booked on a Level 2 felony charge of dealing in a Schedule I, II, III controlled substance. Both women are being held on $17,000 surety bonds.
The investigation is ongoing.
Warsaw Police are being assisted in their investigation by CVS Loss Prevention and the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
