Irrigation Water Causing Travel Hazards
Irrigation water shooting onto roads is a problem needing to be addressed, commissioner Brad Jackson said at the Kosciusko County Commissioners meeting this morning. Jackson suggested drafting a letter to area farmers asking them to refrain from getting water from irrigation systems across county roadways.
“We don’t want an ordinance or fines,” said Jackson.
Commissioner Bob Conley said he has had motorcyclists and people driving convertibles complain to him about the water problem. Commissioners also obtained the support of county highway superintendent Scott Tilden.
In other news, Kosciusko Area Bus Service is seeking funding for new buses. KABS’s General Manager Kevin Planck said the second quarter revenue from INDOT is $110,478. The 2015 annual INDOT grant request is $451,428. Of that, $326,704 is federal money, while $124,724 is a request from the state.
A capital grant request for $68,000 was also approved. Once submitted and approved, the local match grant will be used to purchase two new buses that will replace two other older buses.
KABS had 12,000 rides this quarter with 50,000 miles driven in three months, said Planck. KABS provides city and county rides.
Tilden said the new date for bids for a bridge rehabilitation project in Syracuse will be at 9:15 a.m. Sept. 23. The bridge is located near Front and Medusa streets. Two weeks ago, only one bid, for $586,304, was submitted and it was much higher than the engineer’s estimate.
In a final order of business, the commissions signed the process map and controls for vending receipts and tax sale deeds.
The next meeting is at 9 a.m. Aug. 12, at the county courthouse in Warsaw. Commissioners are president Brad Jackson, Bob Conley and Ron Truex.
