At a special meeting of the Kosciusko County Council on July 24, local communications company R.R. Donnelley received the tax abatement it requested at the July 10 meeting.

No members of the public were in attendance to object. The motion for abatement passed unanimously.

John Pierog of R.R. Donnelley went before the council two weeks ago to ask for the abatement because the company is taking on a new client and purchasing new equipment. He expects around 75 jobs would be created.

Additionally, County Administrator Ron Robinson came before the council on behalf of County Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden. According to Robinson, two highway department employees have left, and new employees need to be hired.

Robinson suspects that the new employees would be hired on at a lesser rate than the employees who left. The council granted the highway department permission to search for candidates to fill the open positions.

The next Kosciusko County Council meeting is August 14. The council will be starting budget hearings at this meeting.

Council President Robert Sanders encouraged the council members to bring any money-saving ideas to the meeting. He also encouraged the council members to talk to department heads as well.
