UPDATE: Boy Cyclist Dies From Injuries
UPDATE: A 10-year-old boy succumb to his injuries this morning after being struck by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle.
Kurt Engler of Winona Lake died at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
Winona Lake Police Officer Mike Foster says the accident happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. at CR 250 East and Lexington Drive. Witnesses said the boy failed to stop at a stop sign and rode into the path of the truck, driven by Richard Riedel of Mentone.
The boy was transported to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital in critical condition. A medical helicopter was requested, but was disregarded due to extended flight time.
The accident was investigated by the Winona Lake Police Department with assistance from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, Warsaw Police Department, Winona Lake Fire Department, Warsaw Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS.
BREAKING: At approximately 9:30 p.m. emergency personnel were called to South 250 East and Lexington Drive in Winona Lake where a 12-year-old 10-year-old on a bicycle was reportedly hit by a car.
According to Warsaw Police Department on scene, the biker was attempting to cross 250 East, and the driver was unable to avoid the collision. Emergency helicopters were requested, but were too far away to assist. The young victim is being transported by ambulance to Fort Wayne for treatment.
