Syracuse BZA Approves Signs For WCH
Wawasee Community School’s petition for a variance for two signs to be installed was approved Thursday by the Syracuse Board of Zoning Appeals. The petition is to allow the replacement of a 5-foot by 12-foot (60-square-foot) sign in front of Wawasee High School. The old sign will be replaced with an LED sign that is multi-colored.
Wawasee Schools also wants to add a new 8-foot by 20-foot (160-square-foot) sign when ordinance allows 32 square feet. The new event sign will be located near the high school’s football field. The signs are slated to be installed before school starts Aug. 12.
Curtis and Natalie Smeltzer’s petition for a variance was also approved. The couple wants to allow the construction of a residential addition (a deck) 9 feet from the south right of way. The property is located on the west side of Huntington Street, north of Beach Street, at 1029 N. Huntington St.
The board is now looking for a new board member due to the recent death of board member Dan List. Anyone interested in serving on the board is urged to contact town manager Henry DeJulia or a Syracuse Town Council member by calling 574-457-3348.
The next meeting is at 6 p.m. Aug. 21, at Syracuse Town Hall. Board members are President Larry Coplen, Larry Martindale, Jim Allegret and Ben Plikerd.
