Schermerhorn Selects Grace Hoops
WINONA LAKE – Drew Schermerhorn of West Noble has signed his letter of intent to play basketball at Grace College in 2014-15.
Schermerhorn was a three-time All-Conference performer for West Noble, earning a spot in the Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 100 Showcase after averaging 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game as a senior. The 6-foot-4 guard was a three-time All-Area recipient by KPC News and a two-time honorable mention for All-State.
“I chose Grace because of a combination of the Christian campus, the academics and the outstanding basketball tradition,” Schermerhorn said. “I’m looking forward to being the best teammate I can be, working hard and helping the Lancers win ball games.”
Schermerhorn poured in 1,082 career points at West Noble and helped the Chargers (18-6) win the Northeast Corner Conference tournament title as a senior. He shot 55 percent from the floor, 50 percent from the 3-point line and 83 percent from the foul line in his final season. The Journal Gazette named him Second Team All-Area.
“Drew [Schermerhorn] has great heritage and has been very successful in his league for the past several years,” said Grace head coach Jim Kessler. “He has decent size, is a good shooter and is a fantastic student. He’s won a lot of conference accolades and definitely is a player of note in the area.”
At West Noble, Schermerhorn was a member of the National Honor Society. He plans on majoring in life science education during his time at Grace. Schermerhorn, who is the son of Tim and Debbie Schermerhorn, lives in Ligonier, Ind.
