Bowen Bound For Lancers
WINONA LAKE – The Grace College men’s basketball team picked up a marquee commitment from Kokomo High School star Erik Bowen.
Bowen is a 6-foot-6 forward who was invited to the Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s Top 60 workout. He is a two-time Kokomo Tribune All-Area and two-time All-North Central Conference selection.
After helping Kokomo reach the 4A state championship game in 2011, Bowen graduated with a record of success by claiming four straight sectional crowns. His team finished 16-8 this year as Bowen posted 15 points and eight rebounds per game, making 59 percent of his field goals.
“Grace College has a strong Christian background and outstanding basketball tradition, which meant a lot to me,” Bowen said. “I’m looking forward to maintaining good grades while helping the Lancers win championships.”
Bowen, who is the son of Steven and Jeanie Bowen, was a high honorable mention selection for All-State as a senior and served as the team captain for two seasons. At Grace he hopes to major in sport management and education.
“Erik Bowen is an outstanding basketball player and, most importantly, an outstanding young man,” said Kokomo head coach Brian McCauley. “Erik has been a cornerstone for Kokomo basketball the past three years. His combination of talent, attitude and skill made his teams very successful and allowed him to become one of the best players in the state. We are excited for Erik to attend Grace College to continue his basketball and academic careers.”
Grace’s men’s basketball coach Jim Kessler had this to say: “Erik [Bowen] is a very versatile player with a diverse skill set. He’s played against the best there is in the state and isn’t intimidated by anyone. He works hard, is unselfish and always looks for ways to make the team better. He’s one of those guys you have to have to win games. I expect him to be a big part of our team next year.”
