Roger G. Rhodes
Roger G. Rhodes, 78, of Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, Ind., passed away peacefully with his family at his side at 1 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake.
He was born Sept. 29, 1935, at Rice Lake, Wis., to Carroll and Elaine (Orsund) Rhodes. He was a 1954 graduate of Bourbon High School in Bourbon, Ind.
Roger was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1955 and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1962. On Oct. 26, 1957, he was married in Elkhart, Ind., to Shirley Gang, who survives in Winona Lake.
He worked for 32 years for United Telephone Company retiring in 1990 as the outside plant manager. After retirement, Roger worked for Grossnickle Eye Center in Warsaw in their transportation and maintenance department. He and his wife wintered in Naples, Fla., for a number of years, where he was a member of Marco Lutheran Church, Marco Island, Fla. He also attended Redeemer Lutheran Church and First Presbyterian Church, both of Warsaw.
He is survived by his son: Randy A. (Carmel) Rhodes, Warsaw; two daughters: Sheryl L. (Dale) Conley, Warsaw; and Shannon R. (Neal) Bruns, Fort Wayne, Ind.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother: Jim (Bonnie) Rhodes, Warsaw; four sisters; Shirley (Don) Guske, Crown Point, Ind.; Janet White, Syracuse, Ind.; Carolyn (Don) Rarick, Warsaw; and Patricia Nichols, Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother: Donald Rhodes.
A private graveside service will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with full military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #49, VFW #1126, both of Warsaw, and the Indiana ARNG Honor Guard.
His memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1720 E. Center St., Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Kevin Koenig. Friends and family can come and gather for a Celebration of the Life of Roger Rhodes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Stonehenge Golf Club, 2850 E. Pierceton Rd., Winona Lake.
Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, Indiana.
