Barbee Watch Hosts Emergency Management Director
Barbee Neighborhood Watch is hosting a meeting about homeland security with Kosciusko Emergency Management Director Ed Rock. It will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St. (SR 13). The meeting is open to the public and those wishing to join this group can do so at no cost.
Rock will discuss what emergency management does in our county, including how to prepare for an emergency and what classes are offered. Other topics include information on tornado preparedness and siren grants.
Also to be discussed is an update on the Tippecanoe River log jam removal, flooding, Community Emergency Preparness Team and FEMA. What fireworks are legal and illegal will also be discussed. Rock will then open the floor for a question and answer session.
Mary Lee Willman, former correspondent for the The Mail-Journal, will talk about her experiences going through three tornadoes and losing friends and neighbors. She has a very vivid account of the horrors of a tornado, what to do if you are caught in one, especially at the lakes, and what to have on hand in case of any type of emergency. She has ideas that most of us have never even thought of before. The last local tornado was November 2013 and the season seems to be shifting to fall.
Please invite those who may be interested in your organizations and clubs as well as your friends and neighbors to join this very informative meeting.
