WHS Summer Projects Include Signs, Upgrades
When the hallways and classrooms in school buildings have no students in the summer months, construction workers are busy sawing, drilling, tearing down, building up and more. Construction projects in Wawasee Community School Corp. buildings this summer are being paid for by a combination of a bond project and capital projects funds.
As noted in an earlier article, athletic facilities at Wawasee High School will be getting a makeover. In addition to what was reported in the article, drinking water stations will be added to athletic fields and the track will be repaired, re-coated and repainted. Entry doors for the main spectator gym will be replaced and wall padding will be replaced, too.
Projects not athletic related at the high school include upgrading the marine trades program building on Chicago Street with ADA compliant restrooms and improved air handling. In the main high school building, the radio studio area is being renovated and when finished will include a glass window where students on the air can be observed from the hallway. It will encompass part of a guidance department storage area and part of the TV studio classroom.
Other high school projects include upgrading the security camera system, replacing the public address system, replacing interior and exterior signage and installing an electric sign.
Electronic signs are also being installed at Milford School and Wawasee Middle School. Milford will actually get two new sign boards; one facing north and one facing east from the northeast corner of the building. Milford will also get a new public address system.
Grant money will be used at North Webster Elementary to update the kindergarten playground. The gym ceiling structure at WMS is being cleaned.
Throughout the school corporation a film is being placed on exterior doors to help protect the glass better. Surveillance cameras are being added at various sites.
Earlier this year, phone systems were updated at Milford, North Webster, Syracuse, WHS, the central office and the bus garage.
Robert E. Crosby Inc. of Fort Wayne is the general contractor for the summer projects. L-A Electric of Fort Wayne is the electrical contractor and Shambaugh & Son, also of Fort Wayne, is the mechanical contractor.
