Two Airlifted, One Arrested From Accident
At 6:45 a.m. this morning, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a car accident involving two vehicles at the County Farm Road and 400 South intersection that led to a mother and her infant daughter being airlifted by Lutheran Air Ambulance.
According to KCSD officials, when officers and emergency personnel arrived on scene they discovered a 2007 Chevy Impala on its roof that had been struck by a 1995 Ford F150 pick-up truck.
The driver of the Impala, Keisha DeWeese, 18, of Warsaw, and her 3-month-old daughter, Laila Holliday, were both trapped in the vehicle and were extricated by firefighters of the Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory. Both DeWeese and Holliday were airlifted from the scene in serious, but stable condition.
Police were notified by Jennifer Miller, 36, of Warsaw, that she was a passenger of the pick-up truck and that the male subject who had reportedly been driving the truck had fled from the vehicle after the accident. KCSD officers initiated a perimeter with officers of the Warsaw Police Department, Winona Lake Police Department, Indiana State Police and a canine unit to search for the driver. However, upon further investigation it was determined that Miller was in fact the driver the truck.
The accident occurred after Miller, who was eastbound, failed to stop at a stop sign, striking DeWeese’s vehicle as DeWeese proceeded north through the intersection. Miller was arrested as a habitual traffic violator and for false informing and was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail.
