FORT WAYNE – Whitko will have a little representation at the IHSAA Girls Track State Championships in June.

Junior Elaine Warner joined an amazing nine jumpers from the Fort Wayne Northrop Regional to meet the state standard in the long jump, clearing exactly 17-6.5 to meet the mark good enough to reach the state finals. Warner’s ninth-place leap was well short of regional champion Holly Hankerson of Bellmont’s distance of 18-8, but the state number to gain was the number met.

Warner was slated to also compete in the 300-meter hurdles, but did not record a time at the regional.

Whitko had three other athletes competing in field events, but none met the state standards or the minimum top three places to qualify for state.

In the high jump, freshman Kaitlyn Reed was able to clear 5-1 to place ninth while senior teammate Miranda Terrill was unable to establish a height in her three attempts. Oak Hill’s Janae Moffitt reigned supreme in the event with a winning height of 5-9.

In discus, senior Dana Hobbs sent her best throw 103-11 to place ninth in the event. Katie Monk of Churubusco set a new regional record in the discus with her best toss of 151-02.

The IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Finals will take place Friday, June 6, at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex in Bloomington.
