Mary Helene ‘Chippy’ (Thomas) Levernier
Mary Helene ‘Chippy’ (Thomas) Levernier, 89, of Milford, Ind., passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare.
She was born April 29, 1925, in Warsaw, Ind., to Cloyse and Mary (Wallace) Thomas, she married Daniel Levernier on Feb. 12, 1944, at Lake Wawasee; he survives.
She graduated from Milford High School in 1943, where she was a cheerleader. Mary was life member of the Syracuse American Legion Auxiliary and a life member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary of Goshen.
Mary lived most of her life in Milford. She worked as a phone operator out of high school. After marrying she was a stay-at-home mom. She sold Avon and Fuller Brush at different times. In the late 50’s and early 60’s, Mary and Dan helped start the Milford Saturday night sock hops.
Mary enjoyed camping, traveling the US, Mexico and Europe for many years. She loved to read, sew and knit. She knitted many Christmas stockings and dishrags for family and friends. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren were all very important and the love of her life. She loved when they came to visit.
Mary is survived by her husband of 70 years; four children: Dana (Doug) Miller, Bremen, Ind.; and Dana’s family: Tracy (Julie) Miller and Cathy (Todd) Huffman, Bremen; Debra (David) Mann, Warsaw, Ind.; and Debra’s family: Tyrone (Mary Ellen) Mann, Colorado; Monica (Skip) Prudy, Mississippi; Thomas (Nancy) Levernier, Milford; and Thomas’s family: Michele Murphy, Jaime (Mitch) Hollar and Sara (Jason) Fuller, Milford; Timothy (Trisha) Levernier, Milford; and Timothy’s family; Jeff Levernier, Bluffton, Ind.; Brandy (Jim) Coons, Fla.; Heather Hampsta, Lafayette, Ind.; Destiny Turner, Bremen; and Brady Spencer, Milford; 23 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two grandsons: Casey Miller and Darren Mann.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at Mishler Funeral Home, Milford, Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Milford Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday, May 23.
