Warriors Gain Experience At John Reed
KENDALLVILLE – The John Reed Relays hosted by East Noble High School Saturday morning provided both the Wawasee boys and girls track programs an opportunity to see what its depth could do against quality opponents.
Wawasee’s girls finished sixth overall in the 11-team field with 51 points. East Noble held its ground and won the girls title with 119 points, 42 points better than both Bellmont and DeKalb.
The Warrior boys, which held out some of its star performers, placed fifth overall in the nine-team grid with 51 points. Lakeland held off Mishawaka, 106-105, to take the boys title.
The Lady Warriors had a pair of top-three finishes, with the 4×100 relay of Skylar Janda, Sarah Lancaster, Catherine Yankosky and Haleigh Smarr run a 54.83 for third place. Alexis Manges also took third in the discus with a toss of 108-01.
Katlyn Kennedy placed fourth in the shot put at 36-02.5 while Yankosky was fifth in the 100 at 13.61 and Shelby Swartz took fifth in the 100 hurdles at 17.66.
The Warrior boys, which held out some of its normal contingent like Clayton Cook, Adam Doll and JJ Gilmer, still had some notable placings. Zach Cockrill was second in the 1600 at 4:33.88, Tyler Courter fourth in the 100 at 11.77 and Jon Walker claimed two top-five spots, landing 146-11 for third in the discus and 42-9.5 for fifth in the shot put.
