Nisly Campaign Is ‘Most Negative’
Dear Editor,
The Curt Nisly Campaign for State Representative for District 22 has been the most negative campaign I have ever seen. There has been a lot of half truths, misinformation and just plain mean spirited letters to the editor. This a great predictor of what kind of a leader Curt Nisly is, he doesn’t believe he can win by his values and beliefs alone, he and his campaign has taken to attacking his opponent viciously, even using very derogatory name calling. Oh he doesn’t do it directly, he has his bomb throwers do it so when confronted he can say I am not responsible for what other say, even though they use his talking points to throw the bombs!
I attended a forum last week where, when asked questions, he could only stick to his talking points, talking in generalities. He says he will listen to all of his constituents and represent all, but with his idealogy, I can assure you that he will not represent the whole!
I consider myself to be a conservative, but I am appalled at watching this group try to destroy a very good and decent woman who has done a good job of representing our district. She is pro life, believes that the definition of marriage is between one man and one woman and has worked tirelessly as chairwoman of the Family Children and Human Affairs Committee and has even managed to get legislation passed to help those women and children in domestic violence situations.
She believed in the 2nd Amendment and people’s right to bear arms, but believes there should be regulations in place to try to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill and criminals so they can’t do harm to others! She believes we must do a better job of dealing with the mentally ill.
She has also been criticized for suggesting she needed to talk to her experts regarding “Common Core.” The whole Common Core issue is full of misunderstandings! It was created by 46 state governors, department heads of education, teachers and yes, even parents. It was implemented in 2010 after the “No Child Left Behind” program failed mainly for the lack of funding. The federal government was not involved with its creation.
This group of people keep pounding “keep federal government out of our education system,” ok, but we still need a set of standards for us to measure our children’s educational development. Due to the controversy regarding the standards, Governor Pence signed a bill to stop using Common Core. So now, we start over (more money) and create our own (Indiana) standards, probably using Common Core as a starter! Indiana ranks 44th in the nation regarding high school graduation. We have failed our children miserably.
So these seem to be the issues Mr. Nisly is running on. Fine, we live in a free nation where we can vote for who we want and I, too, believe in the 1st Amendment of free speech, but am really disgusted by it being misused by a few to destroy a person.
I want a leader who is honest and has integrity. I have learned when one has to destroy another to elevate oneself, that is a sign of weakness, not strength!
Rebecca has not asked me to write this letter, I have done it because it has concerned me the way she has been treated by Curt Nisly’s supporters. I could not sit by and watch this verbal beating without giving her some support.
A lot of people don’t want to get involved for fear of being drug down with her, well, I really don’t think I will run again for an office, watching this daily beating this woman has taken has soured me on politics!
All I am asking for is that when you go vote — and please, go vote — do your homework and know the facts before pushing the button and don’t just take another person’s word, go online and do your own research.
