Tiger Golfers 11th In Spring Preview
FRANKLIN – The Warsaw boys golf team entered play Saturday ranked No. 11 in the state.
When it was all said and done, that’s exactly where the Tigers ended up in the Spring Preview.
Warsaw shot a team total of 335 in the 24-team event contested at The Legends Golf Club. The Legends will be the site for the State Finals in June.
Jonny Hollar and Will Petro led the way for Warsaw over the par 72, 6,850-yard layout as each shot a round of 80.
Ryan Cultice came in with an 86 for coach Ben Barkey’s team. Reid Cameron shot 89 and Brandon Eckert 91 for the Tigers.
No. 4 Hamilton Southeastern captured the team title with a 298. No. 2 Columbus North was second with a 312, followed by No. 3 Carmel (314), No. 12 Corydon Central (318) and No. 5 Noblesville (319) to round out the top five teams.
Senior Michael VanDeventer of Columbus North fired a two-under par round of 70 to earn individual medalist honors. VanDeventer is a Ball State recruit.
The final team standings had No. 17 Jasper in sixth place with a 323, followed by No. 6 Pendleton Heights (326), No. 10 Floyd Central (329), Providence (333), Homestead (334), Warsaw (335), No. 13 Cathedral (336), Rivet (342), Bedford North Lawrence (344), No. 15 Bloomington South (345), Castle (345), Marion (345), Munster (346), John Glenn (355), Brebeuf (359), Greenwood (366), Logansport (386), Seymour (388) and Lafayette Jeff (415).
The Warsaw junior varsity team posted a second-place finish Saturday in the Rochester 9/10 Invitational.
Tim Rata led the JV Tigers with a 92. Michael Jensen shot a 93, while Jacob Foster shot 95, Luke Johnson 100 and Rob Sullivan 110.
Warsaw will host the Don Dicken Classic on Saturday, April 26 at the Stonehenge Golf Club.
