North Webster Library Announcements
She’s back! The Herb Lady (aka Janette Stackhouse) has returned to start off the growing season with her popular Hooked on Herbs Class series that begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3. In this first class, Janette will share what she has learned through trial and error over the years about growing and using herbs. Participants will learn what, when, and where to plant various herbs; how to use herbs while they are still growing; and pairing herbs with food. In the second class on June 7, participants will explore the many ways to use herbs in cooking and aromatherapy. No advance sign-up is required, and you don’t need a library card to attend. So bring your green thumb and join us!
Meanwhile, the North Webster Hiking Club will be enjoying its first nature hike that same day. This newly-formed club will leave from the Library parking lot at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, for Chain O’ Lakes State Park near Albion. Two hikes will be offered a 50-minute hike and a 1 hour 20 minute hike. Both hikes will follow groomed trails with a few slight hills through hardwood forest, swamp, and a series of beautiful small lakes. The group will carpool for the 35 minute drive to the park and share gas expenses and the $5 per-car park entrance fee. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy after the hike. Expected return time will be 1:30 p.m. To participate, all hikers must have a signed liability and emergency medical form on file at the Library. These forms are available at the Library. Minors must be accompanied by a parent. For more information, contact Adult Services Director Beth Smith at 574-834-7122 ext. 205 or email [email protected].
Earlier in the week, the Glean Team invites the public to hear “Beth’s Story” at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, as Beth Smith shares her search for her birth parents and how genealogy research techniques can help others in searching for lost relatives or ancestors. The Glean Team is a group of experienced genealogists who meet the first three Wednesdays of each month to collaborate on genealogy and historical projects.
Other activities next week include Voyager Book Club at 10 a.m. Monday, April 28, discussing inspirational books, followed by the weekly weight loss support group Lose It @ The Library at 5:30 p.m. Jan Biehl will lead the Make and Take Card Class at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 1. Please sign up in advance at the Front Desk or by calling 574-834-7122, and there is a $7 class fee to cover materials.
Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to stop by the Library after school at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, for the Teens Only Movie. Showing is a sci-fi comedy about three unemployed parapsychology professors who set up shop as a unique ghost removal service. It’s rated PG and runs 105 minutes. The movie is free and so is the popcorn.
