Fussle Hosting County-Wide Cleanup Day
Kosciusko County Councilman and candidate for Kosciusko County Commissioner Jon Fussle is hosting a “County-Wide Cleanup Campaign” on Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22.
Fussle is taking a non-traditional approach as he campaigns this election season by hosting a clean-up day and is encouraging the public’s support and participation.
Fussle began the “Clean-up Campaign” when running for county council in 2012 and has successfully continued the project since being elected onto the council in 2013. In an effort to help beautify Kosciusko County, Fussle and his supporters hit the county roads in the spring, summer and fall, collecting trash and litter to clean up the county. Despite the hot, humid, and sometimes wet weather in the past, one crew of just six volunteers gathered over 1,000 pounds of trash in just 3 hours along one county road.
“I’m so encouraged by the support we have received on clean-up days,” said Fussle. “People we didn’t even know came out to help and that’s really exciting. It makes you feel like you can really make a difference!”
Fussle’s goal is to use his position serving the community as an elected representative to be an advocate for the county. “Kosciusko County needs leaders who are willing to lead by example and to go beyond the job description of their office. It means setting high expectations for myself and hoping others to do the same throughout the county,” says Fussle. “So much time, energy and money are wasted on campaigning. Why not focus those resources on making a real, lasting difference in our community? If I leave this place better than I found it, I consider that a success, no matter what the outcome is on May 6.”
The Clean-up Campaign kicks off from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 22. Fussle is challenging voters, businesses, community leaders, candidates and groups of all ages to get involved in the clean-up effort.
