UPDATE: One Critical, One Serious After Crash
UPDATE: The driver of a sports car that smashed through a fence and collided with a tree was airlifted from the scene of the accident with serious injuries. It happened just after 5 p.m. on CR 150 West, just south of CR 400 North in Warsaw.
The Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team investigated the accident and determined speed was a factor.
According to police, Michael S. Thomas, 29, Warsaw, was northbound on CR 150 West traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the 2011 Chevy Camaro. The vehicle veered off the east side of the road where it struck a mailbox and traveled several yards down a fence row before impacting a tree. The vehicle came to a rest facing south on the west side of CR 150 West.
Thomas was found trapped inside the car suffering from a severe head injury. He was airlifted from the scene to Parkview Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
A passenger in the car, Joseph G. Haupert, 20, of Claypool, was removed from the vehicle and transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne in serious condition. Haupert also suffered head injuries.
Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. was assisted on scene by the Leesburg/Plain Township Fire Department, Warsaw/Wayne Township Fire Territory, Multi-Township EMS and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
