M. Rose Snyder
M. Rose Snyder, 103, Winona Lake, Ind., passed away 6:52 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Grace Village Health Care in Winona Lake.
She was born on Sept. 14, 1910, in Conemaugh, Penn., to Grover and Myrtle May (Gossard) Snyder.
Rose graduated from Ashland College in Ohio with a teaching certificate in 1929. She taught in Ohio for 2 years and then spent the next 42 years teaching in her home town — first in Conemaugh and then the last 5 years in Franklin once the school systems were consolidated. For most of her career she taught fifth-grade, many times teaching the children and grandchildren of former students until her retirement in 1973. Rose enjoyed socializing with friends, and had traveled throughout the United States and Europe. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and needle crafts. Except for her years in Ohio, she was a lifelong resident of Conemaugh until this past December 2013 when she moved to an assisted living facility in Winona Lake, to be near family. Rose was thrilled with a surprise 100th birthday party in her honor in September 2010.
She is survived by her niece: Karen Basham, Mishawaka, Ind.; and her nephew: David Snyder, Mason, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Blaine Snyder; and her sister: Ruth Snyder.
There is no visitation or services planned, she will be buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Johnstown, Penn.
Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Rd., Warsaw, Ind.
