Teen Reports Own Armed Robbery Attempt
A Syracuse teen not only attempted to rob a convenience store while armed with an airsoft rifle, he reported the crime himself.
Nick Jay Hise, 18, reportedly called the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Tuesday afternoon to say he used an airsoft rifle in an attempt to rob the Noble Convenience Store of cigarettes. Employees of the Noble store, located at 10010 N. Turkey Creek Rd., Syracuse, believed the weapon to be a toy and did not report the incident.
Hise allegedly confessed over the phone to an officer that he went into the convenience store wearing a bandana style mask and carrying the assault style airsoft rifle. He said he pointed the weapon at the store manager and the cashier demanding cigarettes.
Store employees believed the weapon to be a toy and, when they failed to comply with his demands. Hise left the store without incident.
Officers located Hise and arrested him on a preliminary charge of felony attempted robbery. He is currently being held on a $5,000 bond in the Kosciusko County Jail.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was also assisted the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office and the Indiana State Police.
