Syracuse Public Library Announcements
Knitting and Crocheting Group
The Syracuse Library is providing a meeting space for knitters and crocheters from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22. The group is for beginners, who would like help, or experienced people who want to share projects and ideas.
Anyone age 8 or older is invited to come to the library meeting room where comfortable chairs and hot drinks will be provided. Staff members will present easy beginner’s crocheting and knitting projects along with answering questions.
The library is hoping to attract various people that are interested in doing fiber crafts. The name to watch for is, String Theory Fiber Group. The library wants to facilitate the interaction of people who work with string to make objects expressing creativity or utility. Please bring your own needles, hooks and yarn to the meeting. The library will have a few extra implements and some yarn to try a little bit of knitting and crocheting.

One Book, One Hour
The Wednesday evening adult book club is reading a John Steinbeck biographical adventure, Travels With Charley. Charley is a large poodle that travels with Steinbeck while they tour the United States from the East coast and back. Steinbeck had a heart condition and critics have pointed out discrepancies in the facts of the story, possibly altered because of the rigorous nature of the trip. The book is crafted with memorable quotes and observations. Steinbeck, the novelist, may have been making things up while relaxing in a luxury hotel, but still, it has been a revered travel guide. Travels With Charley was reprinted for the 50th anniversary in 2012.
Evergreen Accepting Online Payments
The Evergreen system was upgraded over the weekend. The most significant change is that patrons can now pay fines at a secure site over the internet. Patrons can use a credit or debit card to pay their fines. The entire fine must be paid in full and a surcharge is assessed. Thanks for everyone’s patience while the libraries were offline.
