Vikings Finish Perfect In TRC Hoops
The Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team completed its second straight perfect league season Saturday.
The Vikings closed out Three Rivers Conference action with a 76-62 win at Southwood in Three Rivers Conference play.
Valley improves to 12-3 overall and wraps up its second straight undefeated conference season at 7-0. The Vikings also shared the league title with Northfield at 6-1 two seasons ago.
Southwood led 21-16 after the opening period before the Vikings outscored the hosts 39-22 over the second and third quarters to take control.
Junior Chainey Zolman tossed in 25 points, including draining four treys, to pace the Vikings.
Senior Tanner Andrews returned to action after sitting out the previous game with a hamstring injury to score 23 points. Logan Britton added 10 for Valley.
Coach Bill Patrick’s team won its second in a row and has now won nine of its last 10 games. The Vikings have lost to Culver Academy, NorthWood and John Glenn (in overtime).
Southwood, which saw its six-game winning streak ended on Saturday, drops to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in TRC action.
In other TRC action Saturday, Whitko dropped a 50-42 league contest at Manchester.
The hosts outscored the Wildcats 19-13 in the final quarter to secure the win.
Freshman Nate Walpole led Whitko with 13 points. Seth Patrick scored 12 and Dylan Cumberland 11 for the Wildcats.
The Squires, winners of four in a row, improve to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in the TRC. Whitko, which has lost its last 12 games, drops to 1-15 overall and 0-6 in conference action.
Tippecanoe Valley plays at Bremen and Whitko hosts Southern Wells in non-conference action Tuesday night.
