WCPL Announces 1,000 Book Program
By Duane Herendeen, Child Services Supervisor, Warsaw Community Public Library
It’s a well proven fact that the earlier a child is exposed to books and the love of reading, the better their outlook will be when it comes to education and adapting to new learning skills. The more time you spend reading to your newborn or toddler, the more you’re investing in their future.
We want to help you invest in their future by offering a program we call the 1,000 Book Club. By signing up for the program, you’re committing to read 1,000 books to them before their first day of kindergarten.
When you register for this free program you’ll receive a folder that includes a brief description of the program and your first 100 book log-in sheet. As you read a book, you simply write the title of the book down. If your child has a favorite book that you read to them often, please write it down each time you share it with them.
As you finish each 100 book log-in sheet, you bring it in to the Children’s Department where your child will receive a certificate for completing that level and a sticker. When you read 1,000 books to your child they will receive a free book and a book bag that they can use for return visits to the library.
We even have a wall of fame for our past 1,000 Book Club readers who finished the program. If you like, you can bring in a photo of your child to be added to the wall so everyone can see your special reader.
Don’t let the number 1,000 scare you as you read to your child. It’s amazing how fast it’ll add up, and we can always suggest great titles to you for further reading. We hope to see you soon at the library.
