Granddaughter, Boyfriend Held In Home Burglary
Investigators of the Warsaw Police Department say they have solved a recent west side burglary where suspects ransacked a home and stole items including a handgun.
On Thursday, the day after the home burglary, WPD investigators interviewed Alexis Henry, 18, of Warsaw, about the crime. Henry is the victim’s 18-year-old granddaughter. As a result of their interview, police arrested Henry and charged her with burglary to a dwelling, a Class B felony. She was also charged with Class D felony theft.
Police say Henry and her boyfriend, Ritchie Hernandez Jr., 21, also of Warsaw, used a hidden spare key to gain entry into the home. The couple’s initial plan, according to police, was to steal the grandmother’s prescription medications. However, once inside the home, the pair took checkbooks, money, gift cards, purses, a mini fridge, and the Smith and Wesson handgun, among other items.
Police were able to recover all of the stolen items, including the handgun which Hernandez had already filed the serial numbers off of.
Hernandez has been charged with Class B felony burglary to a dwelling; possession of an altered handgun, a Class C felony; and theft, a Class D felony. He also had a warrant for failure to appear for a traffic violation out of Marshall County.
Hernandez is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail without bond. Henry is being held on a $2,000 surety bond.
Warsaw Police were assisted in their investigation by the Kosciusko County Major Crimes Task Force.
