Breaking Down The 1,000 Victories
WINONA LAKE – 57 seasons, 4 coaches and over 1,700 games have led to a historic milestone for Grace College men’s basketball — 1,000 all-time Lancer victories.
Grace became just the fourth Crossroads League team to reach the 1,000 win mark (Taylor, Huntington, Bethel).
A celebration has been planned for Saturday, Feb. 1, to coincide with the Lancers’ home game against Goshen at 3 p.m. A special presentation will be made by Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe before the game to men’s coach Jim Kessler and Grace President Dr. Bill Katip. T-shirts with the official “1,000 Lancer victories” logo will be available for sale at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center to commemorate Grace’s achievement.
Additionally, all Grace College men’s basketball alumni who are present will be honored at the conclusion of the men’s game against Goshen for their contribution to Grace’s milestone.
“Usually you’re only as good as your last game, but you do have certain markers that indicate degrees of success for a program,” Kessler said. “Wins are not the only mark for our program, but it does give you something to build on and helps give direction. Lots of coaches, players and administrators have contributed to this milestone. To reach 1,000 wins as a program helps indicate that we’re doing something right.”
