Father Attempts Cover Of Son’s Accident
A Warsaw man was arrested this weekend after his father allegedly attempted to take the fall for him.
According to police reports, Shane Michael Pingleton, 18, of 5128 W. SR 114 Lot 4, North Manchester, was arrested for illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage and failure to stop after a car accident that caused a personal injury.
At 12:22 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, officers of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department were called to respond to an accident located at 1300 South in Silver Lake. According to the accident report, when officers arrived at the scene, the driver, Shane Pingleton, was not at the accident. Instead, officers found his father, Bruce Pingleton, who claimed he was the driver and had been the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
After further investigation, officers discovered that Bruce was not the driver and that his son was driving at the time of the crash. In addition, police discovered that two girls were injured in the crash. A 16-year-old female reported minor bleeding from a head injury and Kaileigh P. Sterk, 20, of Warsaw, reported neck pain.
Police administered an alcohol test to Shane and found his blood alcohol level to be .13 percent. He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on a $2,000 surety bond. Damages from the crash are estimated to total up to $10,000.
There is no word yet on whether charges will be filed against the elder Pingleton.
