Dorothy ‘Dot’ Mae Wysong

Dorothy (Dot) Mae (Neidigh) Wysong, 81, of Syracuse, Ind., passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 11, 2014, of natural causes in Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse.

She was born Sept. 17, 1932, to Ralph A. and Mary White Neidigh in Martinsville, Ind. She married Richard M. Wysong on June 5, 1954.

Dot was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church for 35 years where she faithfully worked in the nursery. She was a member of the Samarian Circle, served funeral dinners and was a lay leader. She volunteered at Teen Parents Succeeding for 15 years. Dot was a member of the Junior Mother’s Club and an avid and talented quilter.

In 2009 her dedication was recognized with Michiana’s 55 Plus Volunteer Award. Her outstanding service to the Kosciusko County Community Foundation was rewarded with the Heart of Gold Award in 2008 for extraordinary acts of service and kindness to others.

Dot received her education and training from Georgia Baptist Nursing School  in Atlanta, Ga., and began her career as a registered nurse. She was the nurse at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind., in the mid 1970’s and later worked with Dr. Jack Clark in Syracuse for 17 years.

She is survived by her husband: Dick Wysong; three children: David (Theresa) Wysong, Bremen, Ind.; Julie (Carl) Schrock, Syracuse; and Andrew (Jennifer) Wysong, Nappanee; six grandchildren: Lance (Kelsey), Melanie (Clarke Kauffman), and Tanya Schrock, Sarah, Sydney and Jack Wysong; and her sisters: Marcia McLauchlin, Sturgis, Mich.; and Nita Jo Bell, The Villages, Fla.

Dot was preceded in death by her father and mother.

Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church, Syracuse, and also from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Reverend Ed Beedle will officiate.
