Elkhart Police Arrest 18 For Underage Drinking
On Dec. 8, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department’s Sheriff’s Teenage Alcohol Reduction program team responded to a report of an underage drinking party at 12061 CR 36 in Goshen. At the residence, S.T.A.R. team members found multiple subjects under the age of 21 who had consumed alcoholic beverages.
Of those arrested, 15 minors were cited and released for Illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage. Of the 15 arrests that were made, seven were between the ages of 18 and 20 and eight were under the age of 18. All minors were cited and released and those under the age of 18 were released to their parents.
Arrests that were made included the following: Sarah D. Borntrager, 18, Goshen; Harlan J. Borkholder, 19, Millersburg; Jessy E. Bontrager, 19, Topeka; Jesse A. Mast, 19, Shipshewana; Pauline Lehman, 18, Topeka; Carol A. Bontrager, 18, Goshen; and Lynn Jay Yoder, 19, Topeka.
Elkhart County Sheriff’s Teenage Alcohol Reduction S.T.A.R. team members and officers assisting with the investigation included Sgt. Jeff Stutzman, Sgt. Mark Diamond, Cpl. Dustin Sahloff, Cpl. Michael Bennett, Ptl. Rich Matteson, Ptl. Jeremy Overmyer, Ptl. Cam McDowell, Ptl. Bryant Byler and Ptl Andrew Miller.
The Elkhart County S.T.A.R. team is comprised of officers from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. Their main focus is to target and reduce underage drinking and smoking. S.T.A.R. members continue to deter, intervene, and detect underage alcohol violations by educating the community and taking a proactive approach to deterrence and intervention when needed.
