Wawasee Sports Wrap – Dec. 7
West Noble’s boys basketball team led by a dozen at the half, but needed to hit six of seven free throws in the final quarter to fend off Wawasee, 52-49, Saturday night in Ligonier.
Brandon Evans led the Chargers (3-0) with 15 points and teammate Waylon Richardson tossed in 14 points.
Alex Clark led all scorers with 16 points for the Warriors (0-4), which have lost the last three games played by a combined six points. Gage Reinhard and Chase Myers added eight points each.
Wawasee trailed 36-24 at the half, but stormed out the lockerroom on a 14-4 bulge in the third quarter to make it a game heading into the fourth.
The Wawasee JV opened the night with 14 strong points from EJ Solina in a 50-34 win over West Noble.
Wawasee will play again Tuesday in hosting Mishawaka.
Warriors Earn Two At LaPorte
After a disappointing start to the season last weekend in the home Wawasee November Duals, the Warriors got up from the mat with two wins at Saturday’s LaPorte Invite.
The Warriors ended the day with a 2-3 record with wins over Thorton (Ill.) and Hammond. Wawasee lost to Lafayette Jefferson, LaPorte and Merrillville. Team scores were not immediately reported.
Stephen Possell and Tristin Ponsler earned a 4-1 record on the day, while Zach Ford ended the day with a 3-2 record.
Wawasee (2-9) will wrestle its first home dual of the season Thursday when it hosts Goshen.
