Leesburg Bank Robber Sought By FBI
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Berrien Springs Oronoka Township Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a man believed to be associated with three bank robberies in two states, including one on July 12 in Leesburg.
Law enforcement officials from the three agencies are hoping someone can help identify the man believed to be responsible for robbing three banks, beginning with the July 12 hold up of Farmers State Bank on SR 15, Leesburg.
The suspect in the local robbery was described as a Caucasian male, approximately 6-feet to 6-feet 2-inches tall, probably in his mid- to late 50’s, wearing a ball cap, and having grey or white hair/sideburns with either a beard or goatee that appeared to come to a two-prong or fork-style point at the chin area. It has also been noted from surveillance video that the suspect has a gated walk or limp and wears tennis shoes. The suspect reportedly parked a silver or grey, early to mid-1990’s station wagon, possibly a Chevy Cavalier or Escort, in the area of the bank prior to the robbery.
Since that incident, police believe the same man is using the same vehicle and was responsible for robberies from the Community Wide Bank of Granger and also, the Honor Credit Union in Berrien Springs, Mich. FBI officials have provided Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department detectives with additional still-footage that may assist in the location and apprehension of the suspect.
Anyone with potential information or tips are asked to call the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department at 574-267-5667 or the anonymous TIP line at 574-372-2494. Citizens may also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-342-STOP and you will be given a code number.
