Remains Confirmed Those Of Missing Woman
Authorities have confirmed that the skeletal remains found in a wooded area in rural Warsaw are that of a young woman who has been missing since Aug. 16, 2012.
Children playing in the woods less than a mile from Suburban Acres Mobile Home Park, Warsaw, located the remains early Sunday evening. Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson confirmed this morning that those remains belong to Aurora Shoemaker.
Shoemaker was 18 when she went missing from Suburban Acres Mobile Home Park. She was reported missing on Aug. 19 when family members told Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officers that Shoemaker left her residence at approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, to go for a walk and never returned home.
Official determination on the remains was conducted by Stephen P. Nawrocki, Ph.D., DABFA, Board Certified Forensic Anthropologist with the University of Indianapolis and Dr. Craig Nelson, DDS, Forensic Dentist with the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
Wilson said the investigation into the cause of death is still on-going. Autopsy results are estimated to be completed on Friday. The area where Shoemaker’s remains were located was processed by Nawrocki, along with officers from the Kosciusko County Major Crimes Task Force, which consist of members from the Warsaw, Winona Lake, Syracuse Police Departments, Indiana State Police and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
