Two-Year-Old Drowns In Whitley County
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating what appears to be the drowning death of a toddler in Whitley County.
According to Indiana Conversation Officers, at 1:40 p.m. Saturday the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch received a 911 call reporting the possible drowning at 8009 W. 300 S. Emergency units responded and discovered family members performing CPR on a 2-year-old boy. The child, not a resident at the address, was transported to Parkview Whitley Hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced deceased at 3:45 p.m.
While outside with family members at the residence, the child was discovered to be missing only minutes after last being seen. An immediate search of the property by these family members led to the discovery of the boy submerged, but partially visible in a small pond, a short distance from where he was last seen. It is estimated the child was pulled from the water less than 10 minutes after he was discovered he was missing.
Currently, this incident is being looked at as an accident, but is under investigation by Indiana Conservation Officer’s and the Whitley County Coroner’s Office. Further details will be released when available after an exact cause of death is determined.
Indiana Conservation Officers were assisted on scene by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, Cleveland Township Fire Department, and the Whitley County EMS.
