UPDATE: Tuesday Prep Contests Affected By Heat
The Wawasee High School athletic department announced this morning the boys and girls cross country meets scheduled for today, Sept. 10, at Bonneyville Mill against Northridge and Concord will be postponed.
The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures nearing 95 degrees today, peaking in mid-afternoon. With temps estimated to still be in the low 90s and a heat index near 100 by 5 p.m., when the three teams are scheduled to being warmups ahead of the two races, school officials decided to postpone the races until Thursday.
The races will still take place at Bonneyville Mill Park and begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Goshen High School announced a pair of changes to its scheduling with local teams. The cross country meet between Goshen and Warsaw to take place tonight, Sept. 10, will be moved back to a 6 p.m. start. The boys tennis match between Goshen and Wawasee at Goshen Middle School will start at 5:30 p.m.
Wawasee announced that the boys soccer games against Huntington North, to be played today at Wawasee, will move the start times back one hour. The varsity game will now begin at 6 p.m. with the JV match to follow.
Triton High School announced it will scrub all of its Tuesday sports matches in the best interest of its athletes. Triton’s cross country meet will not happen and will not be made up. The varsity tennis match with Tippecanoe Valley will be played Sept. 30 at Triton. The junior high cross country meet at Bremen will be run Sept. 24 in a triangular with Jimtown. The junior high football game will be played at a later date, still to be determined.
The Triton junior high practices have been canceled for tonight, while the high school practices will be held but shortened with several water breaks.
Edgewood Middle School in Warsaw also announced this afternoon that its cross country meet scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.
