Plymouth Flips Wawasee’s Script
SYRACUSE – What a difference 24 hours makes.
After stomping all over Central Noble Tuesday night in Albion, the Wawasee boys tennis team hosted Plymouth Wednesday and were rudely treated by the guests. The Pilgrims, playing a makeup game from last Thursday’s rainout, opened its Northern Lakes Conference season with a 5-0 shutout over the Warriors.
Singles play were steady for Plymouth, led by a 6-1, 6-0 result from John Gerard against Todd Hauser at two singles. Nate Knepp held firm with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Cal Heinisch on the three singles court and John Hunter closed out the singles victories with a two and three count on Kyler Love at one singles.
The doubles teams from Plymouth were equal to the task, led by a 6-4, 6-0 result by number ones Matt Flynn and Max Holloway against Dylan Houser and Chase Myers. Ryan Johnson and Braydon Davidson went the opposite route at two doubles, starting hot with a 6-0 score on Doug Hapner and Jake Hutchinson, then closed out 6-3.
Plymouth also won all nine of the JV courts.
With Wednesday’s result, Wawasee falls to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in the NLC. Thursday will mark the third straight day of competition for the Warriors, when it travels to West Noble for a non-conference affair. Action starts at 4:30 p.m. in Ligonier.
