Injured City Player Has Surgery
WARSAW – Columbia City senior Sam Dailey, who was injured Friday night in the season-opening football game at Warsaw, underwent surgery on Saturday.
Dailey, a senior receiver/linebacker, was hurt while trying to make a tackle near the end of the third quarter of the Eagles’ 33-14 loss to the Tigers.
Columbia City coach Randy Hudgins told the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette that Dailey underwent surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. He was listed in critical condition Saturday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Dailey, who was named a captain for the Eagles last week, was taken from the City sideline on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance after his injury Friday night near the end of the third quarter.
Hudgins told the Journal Gazette that it could be a couple of days before there was any chance in Dailey’s condition and that doctors were optimistic about his recovery.
“They seemed to be fairly optimistic and positive about his prognosis when we left this morning,” said Hudgins on Saturday. “He has a ways to and we are hoping for the best.”
Hudgins also pointed out that about 100 friends, teammates and family members were at the hospital to support Dailey and his family.
