Lady Warriors Claim Third At Huntington Invite
LAFONTAINE — Day two of the girls golf season for the Wawasee Lady Warriors had the team take third place at the Huntington Invite Wednesday afternoon at LaFontaine Golf Course.
Elizabeth Jackson paced the squad with an 85 over 18 holes, shooting 39 on the front nine to claim the sixth place trophy. Courtney McDaniel made up for a rough opening day Tuesday night with a solid 46 on the front and 48 on the back to card 94, and Mikala Mawhorter was three shots back at 97. Aubrey Schmeltz fired a 104 and Kylee Rostochak posted a 107 to complete the Wawasee scoring.
The Lady Warriors compiled a 380 and were just nine strokes back of runner-up Fort Wayne Dwenger, but no one was close to Marion, which returns from a state run a year ago to shoot 350 to win the tournament.
Huntington North were fourth at 442, followed by Fort Wayne Snider at 454 and Fort Wayne Northrop at 503. Concord, Fort Wayne Concordia and Homestead were all disqualified for mistakenly skipping a hole during play.
Concord will have a chance to redeem itself with a visit to South Shore tomorrow afternoon to face Wawasee and Whitko. First tee is scheduled for 3 p.m.
