Joseph Sabo Jr.
Reverend Joseph Sabo Jr., 86, of Hubbard Hill Village, Elkhart, Ind., passed away at 9:28 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born April 19, 1927, in Clarksville, Pa., to Joseph and Julia (Smoggi) Sabo. On Aug. 24, 1949, he married Hazel Marie Tremba in Pittgas, Pa.
Mr. Sabo was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a Seaman First Class. He was a 1945 graduate of Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Pa. He graduated from Houghton College in Houghton, N.Y., receiving a bachelor’s degree in theology. He received his bachelor’s degree in secondary education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in english literature, a principal’s certification and assistant superintendent certification from Penn State University. He received his pastoral ordination with the Missionary Church.
Mr. Sabo was a member of the Nappanee Missionary Church and former member and pastor of the Park Missionary Church in Hollidaysburg, Pa. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching his grandsons play sports. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburg Pirates and Steelers.
Mr. Sabo is survived by his wife: Hazel Sabo; sons: Joseph Mark (Jean) Sabo, Nappanee, Ind.; Jonathan Roy (Jennifer) Sabo, Orange City, Iowa; grandsons: Joseph Mark Sabo, Goshen, Ind.; Joshua Martin (Tiffany) Sabo,Port Huron, Mich.; a great-granddaughter: Scarlette Sabo; and his sister: Norma (John) Patrick, Rices Landing, Pa.
Visitation will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at the Nappanee Missionary Church Chapel. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at the chapel. Pastor Joe Focht of Nappanee Missionary Church and Reverend Sabo’s grandson, Pastor Josh Sabo, will officiate. Pastor Roland Cadle and Pastor Josh Sabo will officiate. Burial will take place in the Alto Rest Cemetery in Altoona, Pa.
