Ember E. Kern
Ember E. Kern, 99, of Nappanee, Ind., died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Elkhart Rehabilitation Center.
She was born March 20, 1914, in Nappanee to Otto F. and Bessie Robinson Stout. She married Henry Earl Kern in December 1931. He preceded in death in September 1969.
Mrs. Kern was a lifetime resident of Nappanee. She had worked in the War-Ammunition Plant in Nappanee and Huffman Bakery. She also had been a telephone operator for the Nappanee Phone Company.
She was a member of the First Brethren Church and an honorary member of the Nappanee American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed going out to eat and playing euchre and pinochle at the Elder Haus.
Mrs. Kern is survived by a daughter: Carolyn Ann (James) Burt, Arizona; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a son: Earl Edwin Kern.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Elder Haus in Nappanee.
