The Syracuse Park Board approved a rental form for the Harold Schrock Athletic Complex during its regular monthly meeting Monday night.

The football/multipurpose field will be available for rent when games are not already scheduled. Rental fees will be $75 per day per field for residents, defined as those living within the town limits, and $100 per day per field for non-residents. After the lights are installed there will be a $30 per light per field fee. There will also be a $100 per field damage deposit. Jack Birch, Wawasee Kiwanis, and Chris Cotton, coordinator for Wawasee Peewee Football have both reviewed the form and approved it.

Chad Jonsson also reported the goal posts for peewee football should be installed soon. There are two travel team games left in the little league season, which will be played this week, and the tournament planned for this weekend has been canceled.

Jonsson gave an update on the Fourth of July events. It was a relatively busy weekend with the Flotilla race and Fourth of July fire works taking place July 4, the Lions fish fry on July 5 and the Celebrate Syracuse Parade July 6 and the Vineyard Church held an event July 7. There were very little problems within the park during the weekend. Most of the problems Jonsson was aware of took place outside the parks.

Advisor Donna Workman complained the fireworks barge needs to be moved in the future. She said she couldn’t see the fireworks from her yard and she is sure nobody on the north side of Syracuse Lake could see them either.

In his report, program coordinator Tyler McLead told the board the Artisans and Farmers Market is going well. There have been 25 vendors a week with 20 new vendors this season at the market. And 55 vendors have participated at the market this season.

McLead is working with the web designer on designing a site for the farmers market. The target is early August to go live with the new site.

Jerry Riffle, urban forester, reported the tree board had to remove a tree between the gazebo and pavilion in Lakeside Park before July 4. Two saucer magnolia trees were purchased for the town. Riffle reported the tree identification talk went well with 11 participants.

There are still spaces available for the Paint by the Lake class which starts July 17. The summer lunch program will meet July 26 and the Tour de Lakes bike ride is this Saturday offering a 25K, 50K and 100K ride.

The community-wide garage sale will be held Aug. 1-3.
