Schenk Holds Lead At Indiana Amateur
SOUTH BEND – The third round of the Indiana Amateur Championship concluded Wednesday with Adam Schenk clinging to a slim lead.
Schenk, who has led the tournament since its start, struggled down the stretch Wednesday at the South Bend Country Club. The Purdue senior saw a nine-shot lead at the turn disappear into just a one-stroke advantage at day’s end.
Schenk fired a 75 Wednesday to sit at two-under 211 for the tournament. He shot a two-under 34 on the front nine Wednesday to built a nine-shot lead. He then had to take a two-shot penalty on No. 11 for playing a wrong ball and then played his last seven holes of the round at four-over.
Bobby Jacobs of Valparaiso fired a four-under 67 Wednesday to pull within one shot of Schenk at 212 for the tournament.
Tracy Miller of Bremen is the top area player on the leader board. Miller shot 74 Wednesday and is tied for seventh place at 217.
Former Warsaw standout Tyler Ostrom shot 75 in his third round. The former state champion, who now plays at Ball State, is tied for 22nd place at 221.
Quentyn Carpenter, who earned All-State honors for Triton this spring, sits at 235. Carpenter, who is headed to play at Ball State, shot 85 Wednesday after rounds of 80 Tuesday and 70 Monday.
Trey Stoll, who played at Tippecanoe Valley, shot 75 Wednesday. The current Grace College golfer is at 226 through three rounds.
Gavin Wilkinson of Elkhart is tied for 16th place at 220. Michael Makris, a state finalist from Mishawaka Marian, is at 222.
The final round of the tournament is being played today.
