Community Input Sought For Warsaw Development
“Imagine Warsaw” is a community visioning project being facilitated by students and
faculty from the Community Based Projects Program of Ball State University and is in need of community input.
A workshop will be open to residents of the Warsaw community at Warsaw City Hall this Thursday through Saturday, June 20-22. Anyone in the community is welcomed to stop in and give input and share ideas for community development.
This workshop has a broad agenda as it focuses on a general area referred to as the
“area between the lakes.” The study area includes the downtown and Winona Avenue and Smith Street corridor to Winona Lake. The team will focus on the future of the downtown and the corridor as opportunities for revitalization and placemaking.
Special consideration is being taken regarding transportation changes (include bike
paths, future rail usage and pedestrians), the need to coordinate parking and wayfinding efforts, expansion of the housing for the downtown, and consideration of new uses for under-utilized parts of the study area. All of these issues will be framed in the context of energy conservation and sustainability principles.
The team of urban planning students is spending several months working with community representatives developing strategies and recommendations for the redevelopment, creating a new vision for Warsaw.
For the visioning workshop, the team will be set-up at the Warsaw City Hall listening to and sharing thoughts and ideas with community members. Everyone is invited to stop by and talk with the team and share ideas and concerns.
