Wawasee Sports Wrap – April 27
A double dose of Bethany Christian helped Wawasee medicate just a bit Saturday, as the Warriors swept a varsity baseball doubleheader with the Bruins in convincing fashion 17-1 and 18-2 in Waterford Mills.
After falling in successive Northern Lakes Conference on walk-off losses to Plymouth and Goshen, Wawasee put the bat on the ball against Bethany. A whopping 20 hits in the first game had both Drew Anderson and Derrick Sorensen collect three hits apiece, with Anderson posting a pair of doubles, three RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases in his effort.
Sorensen picked up the win on the hill with four innings of one-hit work, striking out four.
Wawasee had six doubles in the first game, with Austin Yoder, Sam Rookstool, Nate Hare and Isaac Rigdon joining the pair from Anderson in the scorebook.
In game two, Anderson and Sorensen combined for three hits, and Sorensen jacked his first homer of the season. Anderson picked up the win on the mound, working three of the five innings. In the two games, the Bruins hurt themselves in the field, committing 12 combined errors.
Wawasee (3-7) will get back to work Monday with a home game versus Concord.
The ‘C’ baseball team also had a double dip Saturday, but were swept 6-0 and 14-4 at Leo. Chase Rookstool had two hits in the first game while Lucas Garza had two hits in game two for the Warriors. The ‘C’ team will play Warsaw Tuesday night.

Softball Sweeps Road Tests
Two games in two towns in four hours? No problem.
The Wawasee softball program passed the first test Saturday morning, a 9-1 victory at East Noble. Alli Ousley was a home run away from the cycle, scoring a pair of runs in the process. Priscilla Weikert cracked a solo homer and had two stolen bases in the win.
Ousley had the win in Kendallville, striking out nine and allowing just three Knight hits.
Onto the bus the Lady Warriors went to Lagrange and a date with defending sectional champion Lakeland.
Scoring 10 runs in the first three innings at the site of this year’s sectional, Wawasee stunned Lakeland, 11-7, in game two of the patched doubleheader.
