Warriors Soar, Pick Up Three Wins

Wawasee logoSYRACUSE — Wawasee shot an outstanding round of 149 to trump visiting Whitko (183), Manchester (189) and South Bend Riley (202) in a boys golf quad played at South Shore Golf Club.

Luke Jackson shot an phenomenal two-under round of 34 to lead the entire field. Tristen Atwood fired an even-par round of 36 and Jeffrey Moore added a two-over 38. Maclain Herr’s 41 rounded out the varsity scoring for the Warriors, which posted its best nine-hole score of the season Thursday night.

“We played much better,” began Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone. “This shows us our potential. We only had one score of double bogey or worse from the four that counted, way better than the other night.”

Wawasee (6-1) had posted a 166 just three nights ago on the same nine holes at South Shore when Fairfield, Elkhart Central and West Noble were in town, one stroke better than Central but ten worse than Fairfield in the team’s only loss thus far.

Whitko used a 41 from Cole Bechtold to lead its cause, followed by a 44 from Danny Zawlocki, 45 from Colton LeTourneau and 53 from Will Peters to comprise its scoring.

Manchester were led by the 44 from Connor Kefabber, 47s from Xavier Whitaker and Noah Cain and 51 from Austin Whitaker.

South Bend Riley had a 43 from Austin Luft but fell off pace with a 51 from Francisco Inez, 52 by Luke Horvath and 56 from Ethan McLaughlin.

The lone JV scoring had Wawasee trump Whitko 182-225. Cal Heinisch led the Warriors in the JV card with a 44, followed by a 45 from Chase Jacobs, 46 from Mark Doll and 47 by Brandon Buss.

Wawasee, Manchester and Whitko will return to the South Shore course Saturday to take part in the 15-team Wawasee Invite. Whitko will tee off with the Wawasee Green squad at 8 a.m. from the tenth tee box. The Wawasee Gold team will tee off from the first tee box at 8 a.m. while Manchester will take another stab at the course with an 8:45 a.m. first tee from the tenth tee box.
